Change Your Life - Unlock the Power of Self Improvement

Sometimes we reach a point in our life when we are ready for change and self improvement. Things aren't going so well for us, or painful or disappointing events seem to keep repeating themselves in our lives. You know what I mean; things like continually choosing the wrong partner or the wrong job, or maybe it's just the feeling that you are stuck in a rut with nothing exciting to look forward to on the horizon. You begin to think, "I need something more in my life," and you start looking everything related to self improvement. It seems that the only time we think of self improvement is when everything in our life seems to be falling apart, or getting worse, or you feel stagnant, unmotivated and unhappy. Then your mind fills with thoughts like, "What can I really do to change my life and make things better?"

There is a lot you can do to initiate self improvement in your life and I am one who believes that once you begin making changes, really positive things start happening in your life. It only takes making one move, one action to bring about beneficial changes into your life. Self improvement starts with you, and if you are sitting around waiting for something remarkable to happen to you without making changes, you will be waiting a very long time and never see results.

The key to self improvement is knowing your own self, and understanding how you got where you are, and where you want to go. Inevitably changes will happen in our lives whether we like it or hate it. At some time, we will all experience several turning points in our life. We can choose to sit around and watch as the world goes by, or we can unlock our self improvement power not because someone told us it is mandatory, but because you feel unhappy, unfulfilled and listless. That is a sign that you need to incorporate self improvement in your life. When you continue to get the same unwanted results in your relationships, jobs, lack of money, addictions and in other areas of your life - that should send a signal to you that it's time for change and self improvement.

I hear people all the time complaining that they hate their life, their job, their partner, their weight and yet they choose to do nothing about it. I have no time for whiners who insist that the world owes them because somehow they think they deserve it, but do nothing to earn it. Even though they repeatedly get negative results in their relationships and endeavours, they just can't accept that change begins with them. They need to do some self- evaluation and implement self improvement in their life.

Be aware of the signals in your life and when you see the same warning signs over and over, take note and start making self improvement. Don't wait until none of your clothes fit anymore before adopting some self improvement in a healthier lifestyle. You have a lot more chance of success when you see the fist signs that there is a problem in different aspects of your life. If your favorite jeans seem to be getting harder to fasten up, then start to make improvements in your diet to lose unwanted pounds. The same principle applies to everything in your life. Don't wait until you experience pain and hopelessness before applying the power of self improvement.

Don't wait until your world starts falling apart. Many of us do that because change isn't always easy, but ignoring change only worsens the situation. There is no need to resist or fear change. Remember if you continue to do the same things in the same way, you will get the same results. So face it and do something about it. Self improvement can be exhilarating and freeing. It can empower you. Making positive changes through self improvement will lead to much more happiness, control and contentment in your life.

Self improvement doesn't mean you need to change everything in your life. Look at the areas that are not making you happy. For example if you need to lose a few pounds, join a gym or exercise class a few nights a week. Or buy a fitness CD, and grab a friend to work out together. Make it something that is fun and you will begin to look forward to self improvement. If you lack confidence or you feel your communications skills are weak, there are so many resources to help you in those areas. There are literally hundreds of self improvement books, courses, audio CD's, and videos that can help you boost your confidence and help you understand how to communicate more effectively.

The beauty of self improvement is, it is something you can do in the privacy of your own home with plenty of books, courses and CD's that you can choose from. Carve out your own path and method to make empowering self improvements.

When you start seeing the encouraging results that happen to you because you chose to unlock the power of self improvement, you will soon realize that it's only the beginning of a much happier road in your life that puts you in control.

How To Unleash The Power Of Self-improvement

To unlock the infinite power of self you must understand what Self is. Your self consists of three core elements: your body your mind and your spirit. You must work on each one of these elements as part of the self improvement process. Each part of self affects the other and each is as important as the other.

Self Improvement Through Body

Your body is the vehicle with which you interact with physical life. Through your body you communicate with the world around you. Your mind uses your body to express itself, your spirit uses your body to experience itself. You must keep your body as fit and active as it is possible for it to be for the rest of your life. Improve your diet. There is so much information on nutrition and health. Feed your body so that it can perform at an optimal level everyday. Your body includes your hair and skin, your heart, your blood, your respiratory system and your hormones. What are the foods that you need to be consuming that keep these parts of the body functioning at their peak - always?

Your body was built as a strong active working machine. It has been constructed for a potential life of well over a hundred years. If you do not let your body do what it was designed for it will falter and ultimately fail. As well as feeding body for optimum health you must also exercise it so that it can renew itself. Your muscles keep themselves strong by use. The same can be said of your brain too.

Self Improvement Through Mind

It is through the mind that you make the decisions for your body. Everything that you are today has been planned out by your mind. The job you do, how much you earn, the person you married, your weight, your beauty, your car, your house etc, etc. Through your mind and your thoughts you have created your present life experience. If you want self improvement any part of your life as you experience it now you must improve your mind. Knowledge is a key that opens so many doors. Improve your mind through the acquisition of information. Perhaps you want a better job and to earn more money. What do you need to know to get from where you are to where you want to get to? Do you need extra qualifications or to retrain?

However improving the conscious mind is the easier part. The difficulty is the subconscious mind which also has a huge part to play in your life as you experience it today. Perhaps you are overweight because you eat inappropriately. You find it difficult to resist the urge to binge on chocolate but you don't know why. The answer probably lies somewhere in your subconscious where you have stored learned behaviour from the past. Once you access the subconscious you can change what is stored there and thus improve your behaviour. There are a number of professionals and therapies who can help you improve your self through the mind and there are a number of self help techniques you can use.

Self Improvement Through Spirit

Such concepts as faith, hope, joy, contentment, peace, and love all fall within the realm of the spirit. You don't have to be religious to know the essential nature of these things to fully experience a life of the highest quality. However working with the spirit is different than working with the body and mind. You can work to improve you body and mind but you must work to let your spirit improve you. Just taking time on a regular basis to get in touch with your spirit will bring you self improvement at the most profound level. Religious structures and practices have been put in place by our ancestors to help us commune with the spirit. You may choose to follow a religion or find your own path but without good spiritual health you will find the power of self improvement in all areas much more difficult to unleash.

Overcome the Fear of Self Improvement

People are usually afraid of things they do not understand. When you hear the term "self improvement" people get all jumpy and defensive. Why? They are afraid of self-improvement because of this fear of the unknown. To proceed with anything in life is self-improvement, to learn more about a subject is self improvement, to exercise, eat right, drive safely, and just about anything else in your life you desire to change is self improvement. may help you in this situation.

In self-improvement you are simply changing yourself for the better. So, to understand is to remove fear. Said another way; the best way to remove fear is to understand. You may already know that life is always in a continual cycle, of ups and downs, good times and bad times, and so forth. Just keep in mind that normally no one is permanently up or permanently down. Those who get stuck in a "down" often are thought of needing self improvement, but you need constant self improvement to just live life, regardless of you situation. In life no one can avoid these ups and downs it is the way life is. However by constant self improvement your life will have shorter downs and longer ups.

What people should do about these downs is to learn from them, the lesson is to understand that without constant growth you are no longer alive. Think about this: Life is growth. If a tree stops producing new leaves it is considered dead, if a rose no longer produces buds and is just a bunch of grey thorny sticks, it is considered dead. To prove that it is alive the tree and the rose must always continue to produce, or grow, new leaves, branches, and so it is growing. When the growing stops it is a sure sign that life has ended. We humans are the same, no we don't grow leaves or buds, and we produce results. Such as we produce cooked meals for our family, or produce products for our employer, or produce love and comfort for our significant other. We are always producing something and in this measure we are alive.

When we stop being useful and helpful we are no longer living like we should. So we need to use a little self improvement to change what we are doing so that we again produce. An example is in order here. Let us say that your hobby is knitting, and during the winter you knitted every body you know a pair or mitten, because you are good at it and like to do it. Then comes spring, not a whole lot of need for mittens, so you begin to feel useless, and experience a down moment in your life. What to do now? You ask. Well, you learn something new, put it into practice and produce something else. Continuing with the example you learn a new stitch and start making grill pads for everyone so they have a place to set those hot pans without melting the table underneath. You just committed self improvement! Does this mean you should start to learn knitting? No, if knitting is your thing then carry on, but you may have other things you do, such as auto detailing, carpentry, bicycle repair, and so on. Some people even find a way to make a living with their hobby.

So do not fear self improvement, the term means only what it says. Improving yourself. Maybe this year you'll run a marathon, grow a black rose, solve the world peace problem, grow the perfect tomato, or get the promotion at work. All you need is a little self improvement, and that usually starts with reading something that leads to learning something that leads to doing something.

We all have problems that affect us every day. These problems bring us misery due to the fact that we just don't know what to do. We should never loose hope, where there is life there is hope, all we need is a little self help in figuring out solutions to these problems. "All we need is to learn how to overcome it and not to be overcome."

Self improvement should not wait for the last moment; you should always be looking for skills to learn and things to do. To stop learning is always for the worse and consequently, you will let go of a chance, an opportunity, because you are afraid to take a risk.

Keep in mind that, from time to time, something has to happen in order to free you from monotony, so don't be surprised if, at a certain moment in time, instead of being afraid of change, you desire it with all your heart.

Self improvement is not a bad thing; it is not to be feared. You will understand that you are alive and to prove it to the world you will keep growing, and producing. Then when you see your self slowing down or stopping you simply apply a bit of that self improvement stuff again and you are back in the game again.

Be Blessed

Reading Self Improvement Articles - A Never Ending Journey Through Life

How I Got on the Self Improvement Path

More than a decade ago, I got started on this journey of self improvement. The real catalyst that got me started was going through an experience of life that some people choose called "divorce". But although the divorce was the great catalyst I needed to get off my behind and improve myself in every way possible, the beginnings of that journey would never have been possible without direction. The direction I very much needed at that very confusing and messed up time in my life came from reading a self improvement related book called "The Way of The Peaceful Warrior". It changed my life to say the least. Ever since the day I picked up that book, life has never been the same. And it is for that reason that I now continue to write self improvement articles and am in the process of writing several self improvement books.

Keeping Your Energy and Dedication Up

Every once in a while I find myself slacking off on this path of improving myself. Every so often it begins to feel like too much work to constantly keep improving myself. Every once in a while I just want to sit back and see things happen my way for once, the way I like it. But then the beauty about life and this journey of self improvement is that "Life tends to not give us exactly what we want but instead it always gives us what we need".

That's why I have found it so imperative to do things to keep my energy and commitment level high in order to keep improving myself anytime there's an opportunity. And the way I have found that works really well is to keep reading self improvement books and self improvement articles. Although I love pretty much any forms of self improvement articles and self improvement books, I find the ones that move me into action and raise my energy most are the ones that share a story, a personal journey or struggle of some sort.

I find that those types of self improvement articles and self improvement books help the most because the writer shares from a personal space and therefore most people can identify with what is written about. I know of no one and neither have I heard of anyone that has achieved great successes or done amazing things in life without first going through some massive struggle and challenge in their life. Often, the greatest achievements done and people are all people who have crashed so low and hit rock bottom before they made it.

The Value of Reading

So I ask the question, where would we be if we didn't have people who share their personal stories through self improvement articles and self improvement books? Because at the very least, self improvement articles and self improvement books give us a feeling that we are not alone in our struggles. Most often they raise our energy, and level of belief and faith that we can do it, achieve it or overcome it too. And at best, self improvement articles and self improvement books give us a clear direction, a sense of purpose again and clear steps of how we can move forward in the direction that will fulfill us most.

So to me, there is no doubt that constantly reading self improvement articles and self improvement books can only help us in our journey forward, not just towards achieving things in life but most importantly towards helping us become the higher self that we are inside. And by becoming that higher self that we are and continually spiraling upward, we can serve and contribute in more positive ways towards others who are perhaps in struggles we were once in. Reading self improvement articles and books helps give us different perspective on life and it experiences.

Hence, it is my belief that continually reading self improvement articles and books and then perhaps even writing your own, can itself be so helpful to not only you, but others too. So I say keep on reading and writing.

5 Good Questions About Self Improvement

What is self improvement?

Self improvement is a choice, and we choose to change ourselves from within.
Self improvement is to become responsible of what we do, what we have and who we are.
Self improvement helps us to build our self esteem, our values and it takes discipline.
Self improvement is to take the needed power and control into your own hands to create the future you want.
Self improvement is a battle, a continuous struggle to transcend our weaknesses and limitations. It starts with knowing ourselves and having an aspiration of having a better life. On the battle field we need to carry appropriate luggage and armor. Choose a bullet-proof armor and this is self change. Self change is about changing our attitude, our behavior and our way of thinking.
Self improvement is improvement of one's mind, character and health.
Self improvement is not a rigid science. Many ingredients can be blended to produce a variety of self improvement dishes. Some random occurrences coming along the course of our life such as painful life (loss of job, loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a natural disaster destroying all your possessions) or life threatening illness improves ourselves.
Self improvement is not just improving your mindset. It also involves improving your body and physical state. The mind and body are intertwined and both affect each other. Therefore, self improvement ideas should focus on both aspects.

Who needs self improvement?

Everybody needs self improvement. Every person aspires to have a better, successful and fulfilled life. Self improvement is one of the tools that attains this goal. Every person is unique. Each individual has thousands of facets of his life that could or need to be improved.

The results of self improvement is inner stability, personal development, self confidence, self appreciation and self esteem. Knowing that knowledge is power leads people today to increase, in secret their abilities, like acquiring better conversational skills, to get promotion. Each individual must take the reins of his future and control his destiny. Self improvement helps people to achieve his goal or accomplish his vision.

What does require self improvement?

It requires perseverance, patience, practice, thirst of knowledge and commitment. Just knowing what to do by reading books or attending seminar or listening to tapes will not give any results unless you choose to practice what you learn. Starting to buy or to subscribe to any self improvement program or to talk or to articulate what we should do is just the beginning but the main thing and the real test for us is to commit ourselves to practice what we preach or read.

What are the kinds of self improvement programs?

Celebrating Self-Improvement Month In Colleges

In line with a school's continuous endeavor towards self-improvement, in every academic year, a particular month is generally designated as a self-improvement month. During this month, there are festivities as well as several events that further advance and motivate young persons to strive to become better individuals in life.

Making every effort towards the goal of self-improvement, does not by any possible means, challenge the exceptionality of an individual. Well, it is a known fact that every person comes with his own levels of competence. Nevertheless, you cannot put a ceiling on these personal strong points.

There is always room for improvement. In this way, an individual is able to preserve his existing capabilities and simultaneously augment them through self-improvement.

The self-improvement months conducted by several different schools are usually anticipated eagerly by the students. Now, this is due to the fact that theses activities, apart from being remarkably inspiring also give due importance to each and every student. There is neither a leader nor a follower. Everybody is assigned equal privilege.

Before the self-improvement month commences, the guidance counselor carries out student interviews. This is to evaluate further the students with regard to their self-improvement needs or requirements. Besides, students are also offered the chance to contribute their inputs pertaining to the kind of events to be organized in the month.

Once the guidance counselor finishes the discussion, the students are normally assigned a task to create something for an event, which will bring to the fore their creative abilities. They can compose songs, pen poems, paint for an exhibition, choreograph a stage performance, and several such others. They are given a free rein to organize the entire schedule of events.

In addition, even though a majority of schools observe this practice, in spite of it not being a self-improvement month, students are requested to keep a record and jot down personal areas they think need improvement in addition to what specific areas have already been accomplished by them.

For instance, a student can list developing his planning abilities. Later, he can note down, next to it, what the actual development was with regard to the same. For example, he can pen that he assisted his father in planning a formal business party. Even though it is just small thing, nevertheless it is quite a significant landmark regarding his objective of self-improvement. The recorded statements are often talked about with the class adviser or guidance counselor and suitable suggestions are made.

During self-improvement months, the school corridors are covered by an array of murals and collages. The teachers give themes concerned with self-improvement and the students form themselves into groups and make a collage based on the theme, which they afterwards will exhibit in the class. At times, competitions are also held to spice up the proceedings.

Contests are bound to take place since they spur the students on to reveal their true capabilities. Generally, contests are held in the spheres of singing, writing, painting, cooking, and so on. What is of the essence is that students are provided with a setting to exhibit their skills and are driven to sharpen them even more.

In the self-improvement month, there are countless activities, which can be organized. However, everyone should bear in mind that these events must underline the fact that each individual should hope to become a good human being and capitalize on all available prospects for self-improvement. Now, students are in the process of developing. Hence, it is crucial that they realize, as soon as possible, that an individual's capabilities are never ending. There is, even now, so much that can be brought out and shared with others.

Self Improvement - Let The Print News Talk

Many people are of the opinion that developing oneself is far from easy. Troubles and impediments regarding the complete process start with the self since there is opposition frequently.

This opposition is quite on the lines of wearing a worn out pair of shoes on a regular basis. Even though the shoes appear old one does not give up wearing them, as they are quite comfortable. This person is apprehensive that if tries on a new pair, his feet may possibly start to ache. The same is the case with self-improvement. For instance, a person could be nervous of changing his behavior as it may lead to further problems.

Nonetheless, one should never be left behind, without any kind of advancement, in the same way as the person who cannot continue to use the very same worn out pair of shoes always. At particular events, those used pair of shoes would not be the right choice. Viewpoints and comportment that constitute a present self under present conditions may be quite improper in the near future. Therefore, self-improvement and change are unavoidable, regardless of how complicated the process turns out.

With this being the scenario, it is prudent to provide oneself with a decent support structure. Near and dear ones can assist a person while he is in the changeover mode from the former self to the enhanced one. Several resources are available online that can provide further information concerning self-improvement.

Similarly, there are magazines on self-improvement on offer, which deal with pertinent information and share important experiences of people who have undergone the same quandary. On the other hand, these resources usually are expensive.

Luckily, a few magazine suppliers offer their subscribers timely discounts. Magazines on self-improvement usually come at a discount when one signs-up for the whole year. Obtaining a subscription is sensible because self-improvement is a long-winded process. It will be of great assistance if one is equipped with the proper knowledge and information relating to it.

Previous editions of these magazines on self-improvement are also available cheaply. You can pick up these, as they will be of help since self-improvement ideas and information usually do not become outdated. Sometimes, copies of the previous issues are offered as giveaways to the subscribers of magazine. These freebies should not be undervalued since their content makes for a good read.

Prior to subscribing to any magazines on self-improvement, you should first inspect the array of magazines targeted at this area. Quite a few magazines are low-priced in relation to others but have equally pertinent information. These are great deals and merit subscribing to. Self Improvement! Why It Is So Important For A Success?

Everyone have their insecurities. Nobody is perfect. Every one has their flaws. They look at other peoples, envy them for seeing so outrageously complete and perfect and wish they could trade places with them, while they look at us and thinks of the same thing. We are insecure of other people who themselves are insecure of us, Isn't it funny? . We suffer from low self-esteem or we can say lack or deficiency of self-confidence and lose desire in self-improvement because we're enwrapped in silent desperation.

Like most of people I also Believe that Everything that happens to us happens for some reason. And sometimes, one thing lead to another.

Instead of locking yourself up in your cage of fears and crying over past heartbreaks, embarrassment and failures, handle them as your instructors and they'll turn into your tools in both self improvement and success.

Self Improvement and success when they both become synonymous? Why Self Improvement is so important? Where do we start?

We all see disappointments somewhere in our lifes. Disappointments like:

- Failure in examination

- Failure in a job Interview

- Business loss

- Broken Marriages

- Diseases

etc etc

Disappointments whether major and minor occupy our lives. But Instead of thinking its end of the world for us we should be positive and try to solve the problem with a positive attitude. So Now you must be thinking what Do i mean by Positive attitude.

A positive attitude starts with a fit and healthy self image. If you are satisfied with your self, surefooted, self-confident and love the way you are, you also make others are around feel the same way. You always have a lot to benefit from a real positive attitude. Studies have indicated that a positive attitude boosts better health and wellness. Those with this sort of attitude also have more admirers and friends. Projecting a positive attitude also assists us to grip tension and troubles more well than those who have a negative attitude.

So your Positive Attitude is your first step toward your self improvement. We all know Self improvement is a uninterrupted improvement and creates us improve person. The desire for self improvement is the desire to lead a better and happier life. If self improvement is what you desire then this should be your highway to reaching your goals. Self Improvement is an excellent investment in improving your life.

Self improvement results to internal stableness, personality growth and Ofcourse our SUCCESS. Self improvement is the key to better relations with other people. It comes from self-confidence, self admiration and self esteem. Self Improvement is all about knowing who we are and making committed decision. Self improvement is about knowing who we truly are. Self improvement is a better way to take charge of our own life. This is really what self improvement is all about, making positive modification to our lives.

That the reason why I firmly believe that self improvement is critically important.

Nobody is perfect, and self improvement is an ongoing journey. Self improvement is everyone's goal.

The Noble Virtues - 9 Principles for Self-Improvement

In a world of overly marketed quick fixes, self-improvement audio series, books, seminars and miracle products galore, it's little wonder that the majority of those in search of real self-improvement become quickly overwhelmed amid the sheer volume of choices available to them. And yet, a practical, time-tested guide for self-improvement may be closer, less expensive and much more easy to apply than you may think.

As is often the case in our fast paced, modern society of thirty second sound bites and thirty millions dollar advertising campaigns, the proven, often perennial wisdom of our past is overshadowed and down trodden under the fanfare surrounding the next world-shattering self-improvement craze. However contrary to what advertisers and gurus alike will tell you about the paths and products they pitch, real self-improvement does not have to be cut, canned, critiqued and categorically commercialized to be truly effective. For generations and indeed for millennia, the essence of self-improvement was to be found within the Noble Virtues.

Self-improvement is the result of work you, the individual (not some other person, product or thing) put into or apply to yourself to increase your individual value. This may include but is certainly not limited to improving your health, character, communication skills, work ethic, coping mechanisms, memory or self awareness. The result of which can be an increase in self-perception, self-esteem, attitude and/or an overall feeling of accomplishment and personal satisfaction.

Within the Noble Virtues one will not find the often black and white, fly or die advise of profit-motivated professionals and fast talking fad consultants, but more of a tool for individual interpretation and application. And although this may at first seem a bit counter intuitive for someone in search of some solid advise or a definitive direction with which to begin their transformation, in the end, as with so many modifications we attempt to make in our individual lives, the information we learn, incorporate and make our own is much better served and more effective than the rules and recommendations we force upon ourselves that in the end, often result in frustration, disappointment or failure.

Allow me to give you a few examples of how you can incorporate the Noble Virtues into an action plan for self-improvement. First example. We all know what is required to loose excess body weight. Eat less food and get more exercise. Applying the virtues of Courage to take a stand for your health and really begin a weight loss plan coupled with Discipline, to cut out the snacks, reduce the serving sizes you eat and get out and walk briskly 4 times a week, you can empower the information you already have and successfully loose weight. Second example. If you would like to increase your work performance, you can put Industriousness to work in focusing on processes to make your work more efficient for your employer or yourself if you are self-employed, and Self-reliance to stop relying on other persons around you for solutions that you may be better equipped to create and share with coworkers. So as you can see, the applications of the Noble Virtues are only limited by your knowledge of them and what you choose to apply them too. And the more familiar you become with the virtues, the more quickly you will make gains in any area of self-improvement you choose to take on.

So without any further introduction, here are the Nine Noble Virtues for your review:

1 Honor - a feeling of inner value derived from a noble sense of character and the desire to show respect for that quality when found in another. Honor is the highest standard of behavior and the mark of integrity.

2 Truth - to be forthcoming and honest with others at all times despite retribution or reprisal; to say what one knows to be true and right. It is better to say nothing, if one cannot speak the truth.

3 Courage - the capacity to confront fear, pain, danger, intimidation and uncertainty in the face of failure, discouragement or death, and to do what must be done. Courage separates the worthy from the unwilling. Without courage, nothing great can be accomplished.

4 Fidelity - to be loyal to your source and true to your values without limitation. To express an unwavering devotion and a clear commitment to your duty, family, leader and god. Fidelity is the foundation of faith and the cornerstone of trust.

5 Discipline - the ability to be hard on oneself first, and then on others if need be, in order that a greater purpose may be achieved. An orderly pattern of self-control, discipline corrects, molds and perfects the body and the mind. There is no substitute for leading by example.

6 Hospitality - the willingness to share what one has with others and to graciously receive guests, visitors and strangers with kindness and goodwill. Hospitality strengthens the bonds of friendship and nurtures community.

7 Industriousness - the capacity to work hard towards your goals, characterized by a steadfast, energetic effort to be productive without waste. Efficiency is the life-blood of innovation. Hard work is the harbinger of success.

8 Self-reliance - the true spirit of independence, relying on one's own efforts and abilities to achieve what is good not only for the individual but also for the group. Trust in yourself, for god will not have his work done by cowards.

9 Perseverance - the ability to stay the course and pursue your dream with dogged conviction in spite of setback, opposition, discouragement or defeat. The hero will prevail despite failure; the road to success was not paved by the weak.

You can achieve continual self-improvement utilizing the Noble Virtues. You can set the course for your individual development with this resource in hand and put the "self," back into self-improvement without purchasing a shelf full of books or a closet full of products. Apply the Noble Virtues in your quest for personal development and you shall find the rewards of self-improvement rightfully yours.

Why You're Getting Absolutely Nowhere in Your Self Improvement Path - Part 1

I remember it clearly as if it were yesterday...

It was in the early 2000s, in the month of November, on a sunny afternoon. (I know, how cliche, but it really was sunny that afternoon.)

It was a really strange time of my life because I wasn't working, having left the only "real job" of my adult life almost a year earlier. Well, I was sort of working with some startup that had big dreams, but I wasn't getting paid for it, and frankly, I was just going through the motions with it and with life as a whole. I really had no drive to do anything, no motivation, nothing whatsoever. Of course I would've "liked" to have the symbols of success (nice care, nice pad, money, etc.) if they were bestowed to me by some benevolent "genie", but really, that obviously wasn't happening. Not only did I NOT have the desire or the motivation to pursue these things, but honestly, I didn't think I had the capability of attaining them either if I were to pursue them.

Now, of course I know that the pursuit of material things is a road to nowhere, but really, if I had been pursuing these things, at least I would've been passionate about SOMETHING, and have been moving in SOME direction. In my case, I was just standing still doing nothing.

The thing was, I wasn't lazy, nor was I depressed. I was just simply devoid of any desire for anything in life. I just didn't care. I was bereft of any inspiration to do anything at all.

Was I happy?

Well...would you be if you were living like this? I think we both know the answer.

Deep down I knew there was something wrong considering the fact I hadn't always been like this. The thing was, on the surface I thought that me being devoid of any ambition or any desire was the right, spiritual way to be, but it fought with every nuance of my being on a deeper level, i.e. it sucked to be me.

I think Thoreau coined my condition best: "quiet desperation."

So, there I was, on this particular November afternoon, stopping in front of a bookstore that had a table display of books, when one in particular piqued my curiosity due to the title, so I picked it up in order to check it out.

I glance through the book and its subject matter seemed interesting enough, but I didn't feel a need to buy it. However, over the next few days, for some reason, my mind kept on going back to that book, though I didn't even remember the name, so the next time I passed by the bookstore, I bought the book.

And you know what? The book changed my life...

The name? "Think and Grow Rich," by Napoleon Hill, a book about the principles of success. Well actually, it was another version of the book, "Think and Grow Rich: A Black Choice" by Dennis Kimbro, but reading that prompted me to possessedly go and buy the original version by Napoleon Hill. Needless to say, these two books single handedly gave me back something I hadn't felt in several years: my inspiration in life to be successful and do something great on this earth.

In addition to re-kindling my desire to be successful, after reading these books over and over, and over again, I realized something else: I had a pitifully LOW self-esteem.

Low self esteem is funny, because most people who have it don't know they have it and would never admit to it. If someone who was able to notice low self esteem in another person and pointed it out to him, he (or she) would either deny it or get very defensive. This is because people are very good at hiding their low self esteem from themselves through innumerable avenues, some of which include, erecting walls of materialism, bravado, or by simply just being an out and out asshole to the entire world.

I was no different.

It was when I learned this that I can say that I officially started my path of "self improvement" and self discovery. (There's a reason why I put "self improvement" in quotes, stay tuned). I hit the ground running and threw myself into the whole process headfirst. My burning desire was to become a better person, raise my self esteem, and become a confident person that was secure with himself.

The Desert Years

Now, this is where I wish I could tell my happy ending, where I acquire unstoppable confidence, strike it filthy rich a few years later and fly off in my pink unicorn to my mansion on top of a hill at the end of the rainbow, where I sip glasses of Cristal and party nightly with the likes of Diddy and Naomi Campbell.

Nope. Definitely not with me.

Instead, I entered into another "desert" period in my life that lasted five years. It was a period where I experienced very little if any growth whatsoever. Instead I went around in circles, reading book, after book after book, going to different seminars, visiting a hypnotist, talking to coaches, listening to CD after CD, etc, all in the hopes of finding that magic pill, that one marvelous distinction that would enable me to finally let go of my negative beliefs, show me how to get over the past, and show me how to be a better person.

I remember buying book after book, hoping that each book would be "the one" that would give me that magical insight that would change my life. I would read each book accompanied with a "trusty" highlighter pen, highlighting everything I found insightful in the book, hoping that somehow these words would seep into my consciousness and help change me.

Sadly, that didn't happen. All I'd get was a dry highlighter pen, but no real personal growth. I instead become a walking "self help" encyclopedia, full of inspirational quotes that made me look all positive and enlightened. I probably was able to recite to you on command, page 73 of every book I read, that's how into "improving myself" I was.

As I read more and more books, I'd feel more "enlightened" and "knowledgeable", but at times, I'd have a somber moment where I'd say to myself, "you have all this knowledge, you've read all these books, but where's the REAL growth?" I'd ponder this briefly and then think, "Oh well, on to the next book!" and sweep the one insight that I TRULY needed to pay attention to under the rug.

I was lost.

I remember taking the Landmark Forum and its follow-up course, "The Advanced Seminar." I thought that now surely this was the place that would make me transform. After all, before I even took these courses I heard of some miraculous stories of the breakthroughs and transformations people received. As a matter of fact, upon taking these two courses. I did receive some tremendous insights, and I did see some people make some incredible remarkable change, but at the end of the day, I was thinking, "how 'bout me?"

I had more knowledge, more insight, but I still felt TERRIBLY lacking.

"Why can't I change?"

"When am I going to get rid of this horrible feeling of inadequacy I have?"

I would ask these questions to myself over and over again, after the next, best self-help tool I discovered out there that I hoped would empower me to become a better person wound up getting me nowhere. I went to a hypnotist, hoping she would be able to hypnotize me to be a confident person....that didn't' work. In fact in retrospect, I just think she was a sucky hypnotist (no offense to her). The only "improvement" I got from her was a lesson of not to EVER waste my money or time with her again.

I talked to several coaches...nothing. In fact, one got so frustrated with me he almost kicked me out of his coaching group.

It's funny, because during this period, I remember talking to a guy in my gym who I have to say, was a complete mess. He would complain to me over and over again about his girlfriend and how he didn't trust her. The obvious solution to his "problem" that I would explain to him was to leave her, but he'd have a barrel of excuses of why he couldn't do that. Yet, what surprised me was that he was an avid reader of self-help books, just like me, having ready many of the ones I had. He in fact bragged that he had a whole suitcase full of these books. I thought to myself in utter disgust, "Is this guy serious? Why is this guy such a debacle if he is supposed to have read all these books?"

The truth of the matter was that I really was no different myself. The reason why I was able to see that this guy was a debacle was because I was only seeing a reflection of myself in him. I, despite having read all these books was quite a debacle myself. I was pointing at him, but four fingers were pointing right back at me. I just didn't see it.

I really, really, really wanted to change. The coaches at the seminars I attended were able to sense my desperation. I had all this negative self-talk going on inside my head, and I wanted to get rid of it. I had this deep feeling of inadequacy, and I wanted get rid of that. I lacked confidence, and I wanted to gain it. I felt as if I had been a horrible, inconsiderate, insensitive bastard in the past, and I wanted to become a good person that people would be able to look up to. I wanted to learn how to stop clinging to my past and be able to let go.

What was frustrating was that during this period, I had read and heard stories about people who credited a certain book, seminar or encounter with someone for giving them some insight that changed the entire way they perceived themselves and the world. They would note that it was this "shift" in perception they received that enabled them to transform from insecure, "bad", unsuccessful people to happy, confident and successful.

I was looking for something that would do similar for me and fix all these "horrible" things I had. Yet, in all my five years of "self improvement", the only major change that had come in me was after I first read "Think and Grow Rich," which I wouldn't even count because it was what first got me on my path. So in actuality, in five years, I had really gotten nowhere.

Oddly enough, I was somehow able to fool myself that I was "changing" because I was reading all these books and gaining all these "wonderful" insights.

Yet funny how these "insights" brought absolutely no real improvement to the quality of my life, nor did they improve my self esteem in any way. I was the same old me who started the journey five years earlier covered with a thin veneer of knowledge from a bunch of self-help books and quotes spouted by famous people.

I was a mess.

I liken this period of my life to the Biblical story of the Israelites wandering the wilderness for forty years without entering the "Promised Land." They just tread the same ground over and over and over again for forty years.

I too was in the wilderness because I was in a place that was bearing no type of fruit. I just thank God it was five years, not forty.

Something had to give.

My "Deliverance"

So, 2005 comes along.

In the very beginning of this year, two significant things happen.

The first thing was when a cousin of mine came to my house for the first time and stayed for a few days. Upon looking at my bookshelf and seeing all these self help books, he comes to me and asks me, "Why are you looking for something you already have?"

That question struck me because it was told to me several years before. I didn't get it when it was first told to me, and I didn't get it when my cousin said it. However, now, these words struck me in a different way. I figured that since I was hearing these words for a second time, there must have been a message in there for me. I started to let them marinate in my spirit so I could find learn the message that they carried.

The second event was that I could sense that God was speaking to my heart trying to tell me something.

That "something" was Him telling me not to hang out with my childhood friends for the whole of 2005.

See, these childhood friends of mine have been my "family" for almost my entire life. They had also been a foundation of security for me most of my life, because I felt that no matter what I went through socially, they would always be there. The insight that God was giving me was that by not hanging out with them for an entire year, I will start to develop that foundation within myself. Also, being absent of their "influence" will help me start to see an aspect of myself that I previously wasn't aware of.

That's similar to the scenario of a tree bent in a certain way would grow in a certain way, however, if you unbend it, it would grow in a different direction.

This was a PROFOUND insight that I definitely could not have thought of on my own. It was completely out of the box of my reality.

Me, looking desperately for answers, saw no choice but to listen.

So to my childhood friends who are reading this, if you've been wondering why I wasn't around for all of '05 and making "excuses" why I couldn't hang out, (if you remember or even care), this was the reason. It was all for self discovery purposes, nothing personal. You guys may find it "weird", but I've come to accept the fact that I'm just not a normal person. Also, if you do find it weird, I retort with my oft repeated phrase that you know very well, "your opinion means absolutely nothing to me."

Either way, I digress.

So, getting back to 2005, it was a year like every other of the previous four years: going to seminars, reading book after book, having all these wonderful insights making me believe that I was enlightened, all coupled with the frustration of being in my own way. I think you get the picture.

However, come the last two months of that year, November and December, I received two MAJOR insights, one insight for each month, that unlike all the countless other "insights" I received, were the ones that were to lead me out of the wilderness.

The first one I'm not going to get into, as it I another topic for another blog. Also, it really didn't have an immediate effect on my life as did the second, which began to change things immediately.

The second insight is the topic of this blog.

It was late in December, a couple of days after Christmas. I was talking to my mom in her room while she was watching TV. In the conversation, she mentions to me that she had a deep conversation with my brother and the subject was yours truly.

She mentioned that my brother was complaining, added to the complaint of my other siblings that I was emotionally unavailable and even though he tried to communicate with me on a deeper level, I wouldn't let him in and kept him at arm length.

The news of this didn't shock me because my siblings had complained about this before. I knew that ever since my childhood that I had always been emotionally distant from my siblings and never really attempted to foster a close relationship with any of them. As I had "matured", I knew this wasn't a good thing, and I felt that by becoming a better person through my "self improvement", this would somehow remedy itself.

Upon hearing this, I told my mom that I was trying to change, and that I had been reading a lot of self improvement books and going to seminars for a number of years, and the insights I had received had helped me to grow.

I then asked her a crucial question, "Haven't you noticed any change in me?"

To this she responded that she didn't see too much of me because she left for work before me and I usually returned home from work late, and at that time she was already in bed, so she really couldn't tell if I had many any change at all.

All of sudden, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I had been doing this whole self improvement "thing" to please my mother.

Why does that insight even matter?

Well let me take you back a few years to my childhood. When I was growing up, my father was the strict disciplinarian in the house, and coupled with that, he wasn't always an easy person to deal with. From a young age, he came down very hard on me and the older of my two sisters, and so, we were dependent on our mother for refuge.

Because of all this, it can be easy to see how my father became the "bad guy" and my mother was the "good guy". My father was the one associated with having a bad temper, being impatient, angry, etc, and my mother was associated with being loving, caring, patient, nurturing, etc. Thus, compared to our younger two siblings, it became important for me and the older of my two sisters to stay on our mother's "good side" because if we didn't, we would be at the mercy to the whims of our father.

Furthermore, as a child, I had a very bad temper, and was prone to throwing huge temper tantrums. When I would do this, my mom would say to me disapprovingly, "You're just like your father."

Well, of course, it sucked to hear that, because I didn't want to be like my father, I wanted to be like my mother. My mom knew this, and over the years, she would play the manipulation game whenever she and I would have a disagreement by hanging over my head the comment, "You're just like HIM."

This had the effect of immediately putting me on the defensive or shutting me up. Either way, it gave my mom a "power" over me. It made me want to be more like her, and since she became the "measuring stick" of who to be like in my house, it also made me believe all the other negative labels she had placed on me.

Thus, over the years, I would develop this persistent fear that I was going to turn out just like my father. One of the main reasons for embarking on the path of self improvement was to "finally address" this issue of me being this horrible person in the past and become a person who my mother could look at proudly and say, "Wow, you're totally different from your father. You're more like me."

This was the reason why I had gotten absolutely nowhere in five years of "self improvement." I had talked a big game of wanting to become a better, more positive person, improve my self esteem, etc, but in actuality all I wanted was approval from my mother.

I remember watching those Warner Brothers or Hanna Barbera cartoons as a little kid where some cat (Tom or Sylvester) would be trying to chase a little bird to eat, but their efforts were always thwarted by the big mother hen or some other guardian that watched over the little chick. So, to fool whoever was protecting the chick, the cat would disguise himself as a bird. However, the plan would always fail because although the cat was dressed as a bird, in one way or another, his nature of being a cat would always rise to the surface (e.g. trying to eat the little chick.)

This was similar to my quest for self improvement. On the surface, I was saying I wanted to become a better person, improve my self esteem, etc, but below that something else was going on.

You see, when I made the decision of improving myself, I was riddled with guilt for who I was up until that point for not naturally being able to display the "characteristics" of my mother. I felt guilty for being such a rude, inconsiderate, selfish, impatient bastard in my past, and because I felt I really couldn't be trusted with my own self improvement, I looked to others who accused me of these things in the past, as well as my mom as indicators of whether I was changing or not. Thus, the more pleasing I was to others, the happier I was because it meant I was changing. However, if I did something to step on another person's toes, I would be depressed that I was failing in my quest to become a better person.

To add to that, I also tried to be overly pleasing to women, which meant walking on egg shells around them because afraid to say the wrong thing, seeking their approval, and putting up with disrespect that I had no business putting up with. I figured by gaining the approval of women, it would mean that I was different from my father, which would gain me the prize of my mother's approval.

In any case, this all gave me a resentment towards women and my mother, because I gave them power over me to control my mental well being. What made me more resentful was that I wasn't getting their approval back in return.

All who are reading this may be able to take a "wild guess" as to how my dating life was.

If a person were to take a good look at my quest for self improvement, they would see me constantly beating myself for not being a good person, me beating myself up for days on end for lapsing into the "old me", me trying to acquire "knowledge" so as to impress people into believing I was a "good person", me being so stiff and stifled because I couldn't trust myself to be "free" because I might mess up, me being terrified of receiving someone's disapproval because then it meant that I really hadn't changed.

My goodness, it's a miracle that I didn't leap from a window or go postal.

I remember reading a quote during my years in the wilderness that went something like this (I don't remember it verbatim), "Change produced by hate can never produce love."

Oh yes, I definitely hated myself.

Now, let me ask you, does all this sound like self improvement to you?

Now you can see why I put "self improvement" in quotes. Clearly, I wasn't improving myself. All I was doing was seeking an affirmation that I wasn't a bad person while beating myself up along the way.

The thing was, I really didn't know I was doing all this.

It was as if I were setting out from a journey to Chicago from New York with a map of Detroit, complaining the whole time why I wasn't getting any closer to Chicago or why where I was winding up didn't resemble Chicago at all.

That revealing conversation with my mom made me realize I was looking at the wrong map.....DOH!

At least now with the right map, I could get an inkling of where I needed to go.

I would also like to add that had I not followed Divine guidance and taken time away from my friends, I probably wouldn't have gotten this revelation. Taking time away from the people that I had been around all my life allowed me to gain a different perspective of myself that made it ripe for me to receive the breakthrough I did.

Obedience to Divine guidance pays!

When I got this breakthrough, I was able to breathe a huge sigh of relief because a big burden was lifted off my back. I now was able to see that I had a lot of guilt in being a man instilled in me by society, my family and the Church, and I read some very interesting books that helped strip away a lot of that guilt. I also now began the painstaking process of untangling myself from approval seeking (which I might add is still going on up till now).

I also cut down considerably on the amount of self improvement books I read. The urgent need that I had once felt to read every self improvement book in sight left me.

Finally, the REAL self improvement process had begun. It was as if God had said to me, "Now you're ready for Me to deal with you." He now was in the driver's seat.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, I still don't have the pink unicorn or the mansion on the hill. In fact, if you might be thinking that my life got any "easier", I'm here to tell you that it didn't. Straight from the desert, I had a brief respite before I was led into "purgatory", (though it still felt like hell). This period lasted for another three and a half years where my life actually got harder. However, this served to be a cleansing period where, unlike the previous five years, I experienced a lot of growth, though I must admit, I didn't care too much for many of the experiences I had that forced me to grow.

Hey, you know the saying, "be careful what you wish for, you might just get it." Boy did I get it.

Hope this helps,

Are You A Self Improvement Junkie?

Are you a self improvement junkie?

Do you do have more than 3 of the following self help addictions:

Are you on more than 3 self help newsletters?

Do you peruse the self help section of your local bookstore?

Do you know "The Secret"?

Are you a loyal follower of Dr. Phil? Dr. Laura? Any self-help guru with a

Dr. in front of their name?

How many self improvement books do you own?

How many audio self help programs do you own?

Do you buy the latest program or book but don't use it consistently for

at least 30 days?

I feel your pain. I've been there too. Okay, I'm STILL there.

Fortunately, I've been able to take my addiction and create a business

out of it by reviewing self improvement products. Now I get new

products and books sent to me on a regular basis to review and include

on my website or newsletter.

You may not be so lucky. But don't despair. I am here to tell you that

wanting to improve yourself is not a bad thing. In fact, man has been

searching for enlightenment since the early eastern philosophers like

Siddhartha and Confucius.

The person that is not looking to improve themselves likely has very

limiting beliefs and is not willing to change. They are the type of people

that would benefit most from self improvement. So don't look at your

quest for self improvement as a bad thing.

The key is to take action or apply the new knowledge you are learning

so you will actually see some self improvement. That is the key

difference between a self help junkie and a self help performer.

If you are looking to get started in any self improvement arena, start

small. Sometimes trying to devote a whole hour a day to meditation, or

brainwave entrainment can be too much to fit into your day.

For information about a brand new program that only takes 7 minutes a

day to work self improvement thoughts into your subconscious, click on

the link below. You'll be taken to a review site for a free 30 trial of this

Self Improvement And Self Help

Self improvement is the enrichment of the mind, character, and attitude through your own efforts and positive thinking. There is no wrong or right in this field, what is self improvement to one person may actually appear as self decline to another.

When applied properly and consistently these thought processes can transform your whole life. Most of us suffer from low self esteem and a lack self confidence from time to time. Eventually we believe that self improvement is impossible to achieve.

These thoughts have been shaped by past failures and negative experiences.

Hopefully we can reach a point in our life when we are ready for change and are ready to accept information that will help us unlock our self improvement power. For many people, financial success is an important part of this process.

We begin to understand that self improvement and self growth improve the quality of life. There is no such thing as an instant fix. Upon starting any self improvement program, most people usually encounter inner resistance that come from their old habits and their subconscious mind, and also resistance and opposition from the people around them.

Self-improvement begins with self-understanding , knowing your true potential and of being aware that you are unique. Improvement can be measured in many ways, in a variety of contexts. What really does matter is how the individual sees his or her self, and what they would perceive as improvement to that self.

The popularity of self-improvement books, tapes and seminars is a reflection of the universal interest we all have in overcoming our limitations, or being the best we can be. The reason why you see so much literature on self improvement whenever you go to a bookstore is that people have forgotten the basic fact that what they are seeking is already within them, and that they already have the means within them to achieve their goals.

In pursuit of an objective, a goal, or even a dream, whether business or personal, you can increase the likelihood of success by continuously exercising your mind with positive thinking, self help and personal growth.

What Does It Mean to 'Self Improve?'

Self Improvement has become mainstream. In the last few years, since I

have been writing articles and submitting them to article sites, I've

noticed that the category of "Self Improvement" has been showing up

lately when it was never there before. To me, this is very good news.

But what does it really mean to "Self Improve?" What are we really

improving when we self improve? And what "self" are we improving?

We each have two "selves" - our wounded self and our core Self. Our

core Self is our true self, our natural soul self - our essence. Our core

Self is our passion, our joy, our gifts and talents, our ability to love, our

creativity. We come into this life as our core Self, and when this Self is

loved and valued by our parents, we continue to naturally grow our God-

given gifts and talents and manifest the fullness of our beings. This Self

wants to improve by learning the skills necessary to fully express itself.

But when this Self is not seen and valued in the way we needed, we

create an alternative self, a self we hope will have control over getting

the love we need and avoiding the pain we can't handle - a self to help

us feel safe. This is our false self, our wounded self, our ego self. This

self is filled with the false beliefs that we absorbed as we were growing

up - beliefs that end up limiting our true, core Self. This self does not

needs improving - it needs healing.

The term "self improvement" can sometimes be a bit misleading,

because we do not want to improve our wounded self. We do not want

to improve on the ways we lie, manipulate, and avoid in our attempts to

have control over getting love and avoiding pain. We don't want to

improve on our many addictions to substance and processes. We don't

want to improve on our anger, our compliance, our withdrawal and our

resistance.

We want to heal it.

Healing and improving are not the same thing.

We can certainly self-improve when it comes to skills. We can improve in

sports, in art, music, writing, cooking. We can improve our health and

wellbeing by improving our diet and exercise program. We can improve

in the knowledge we need to be more successful regarding work and

money. We might be able to improve our relationships by learning new

communication skills. But what if acquiring new knowledge and skills

does not improve our health, or our ability to earn money, or our

relationships? And what if learning new skills does not bring us more joy

and inner peace? It may mean that we need to heal the underlying fears

and false beliefs that cause us to be anxious, depressed, stressed, guilt-

ridden, shamed, withdrawn, angry, blaming, or sad.

Sometimes Self Improvement just means practicing a skill, and others

times it means that we need to participate in a deep healing process.

For example, many people try to improve their health by losing weight

and exercising. But if their food addictions are covering over unhealed

pain, they might not be able to just change their diet. They might need to

open to a healing process in order to eventually improve.

If you are really trying to self improve but find yourself stuck and unable

to progress, or find that you have no joy or inner peace, you might want

to open to the possibility that unhealed pain and beliefs are blocking

your progress and causing your pain. It is easy to improve yourself when

there is nothing blocking the way. But if you have old false beliefs about

your adequacy and worth, these beliefs may be blocking your ability to

take loving action in your own behalf. All your efforts to self improve will

not bring you the satisfaction you are seeking if you have beliefs that are

keeping you limited in fully expressing your true, core Self. If you are

stuck, then you need to seek out a healing process, such as the Inner

Bonding process we teach, that will move you out of the fears and

beliefs that limit you. Healing these fears and limiting beliefs will open

the door to improving your life in all ways!

Self Improvement - A Great Goal To Pursue!

It should be the goal of every human being to constantly seek self improvement. Many a time we see a person's self improvement efforts go right down the drain at the first sight of a problem in life. Any thing that you undertake requires for a process to be in place to make it happen better the self improvement desires are no exception to the role. Processes could be categorized into negative and positive.

As far as self improvement goes, any process that reduces the effort is a negative one and one that encourages it would be positive. We need to ensure that we maximize positive processes and minimize negatives to achieve our goals of self improvement.

Exercises which are designed to increase a persons self improvement goals are examples of positive processes. They give direction to the entire process of self improvement, increasing the person's feel-good emotion as they are put into place. A practical exercise is always great to remind us that the idea of self improvement is not a pie in the sky dream, but a reality that one can work towards.

One of the basic exercises that help your self improvement process is to verbally speak to the self. Studies have shown that when a person verbalizes an idea he or she will do their best to live up to it. Thoughts are not the same as words. Thinking you would do something is one thing, while saying you would do it is quite another! So, tell yourself verbally whatever it is that you desire to improve about the self.

Practice is a definite plus point. When you want to achieve something in life, you need to seek for it diligently. Consider a guitarist mastering a song. It is only when he plays it over and over a hundred times that he has mastered it. So, pick your process, and practice it every day.

Positive feedback is another great exercise that helps you on your self improvement path. Make a note of every positive change you see in yourself, even if they are seemingly insignificant. Positive feedback, as any psychologist would confirm, ensures you will stick to your goals. The feeling of reward is a basic necessity for the human mind, and when you reward yourself by noting the improvements you've made, it only encourages the self to stick to whatever self improvement goals you have set.

One could make a lengthy list of self improvement tips, but the above mentioned ideas are the root exercises which could be modified to suit one's personal targets. The basic idea is that the exercise encourages one to stick to their goal in spite of trouble along the way.

Jump Start Your Self Improvement

Globalization and advances in technology have made the world a more competitive place. Everyone needs to keep up with the increasing speed and pace in an environment where change is a norm. To keep up with the challenging times and your peers, you need to self learn the techniques on self improvement to ensure that you stay ahead of the game. Like most people, you may have desperately wanted to change your life for the better. You may have tried numerous times and discovered how difficult it was without some guidance and direction.

Self improvement has been gaining popularity at an unprecedented pace. The advent of the internet means that people can get access to many tips and ideas instantly. Many of these are available for free. Are they reliable? There are also the traditional personal growth workshops and seminars that offer a plethora of tools to help you reach your goals. Many advertisements pushing the personal development training courses are a draw. While these are useful, they may not be sustainable simply because most participants do not follow up. Without the hand holding, it is almost impossible to succeed.

Self improvement can cover a wide aspect of one personal life. It can range from personal skills, career, relationship, family, health, finances, fitness, or anything that is required to overcome the barriers in your life.

The concept of self improvement may differ from one to another. Ultimately there must be clearly defined goals. These are the targets that one must set before one should begin the journey of self improvement. It should comprise both the short term goals as well as long term goals. The linkage must be established.

Setting the goals it is never an easy task. A lot of people are not sure what they want to improve or that they are overwhelmed with many areas of self improvement. Even if they are sure, they may not know how to go about doing it. And causing them to procrastinate.

A successful self improvement journey starts with defining the goals you want to achieve. Think about your current situation and what you want to be further down the road. In other words, do up a roadmap of your life. Remember that this roadmap is never fixed or permanent. You should keep refining it as you go along - but not every time when something goes wrong. Refocus on your new plan and continue on the path of self excellence to be a happier and more fulfilled person with a sense of purpose in life.

Ask yourself what are the things you need to improve to get to your vision. Make a list and prioritize it. Use the Pareto Principle or the 80/20 rule to rank them accordingly. Do not let yourself be overwhelmed and frustrated by making too many major changes in your life. This is to allow you to focus on the key ones.

Take your career for example. Almost everyone spend their major waking hours on the job unless you are the few lucky ones that don't have to work. Then work is the major component of your life. Is the current job driving your life or the other way round? Are you looking forward to work everyday or are you just tolerating it. Do you go home everyday feeling a sense of accomplishment or tired and rundown?

If you are unhappy with your job, don't let it drag. Recognize the areas of self improvement that you need to open yourself to more opportunities. Overcome the fear of failure by simply taking action. Take the action to list down the things you need to do to get out of this rut. You only have one life and why not let it be an enjoyable one.

Focus is one of the key skills which you must have. This is about self confidence, self belief and self discipline. No matter how hectic and how many distractions you get, you must not let it divert you away from your goals.

How committed are you to your goals? Most people think that they are committed. However they cannot provide a clear answer. Commitment is not just in the mind but in the heart and hands. Then to achieve the successful outcome, then one must thoroughly committed. To do that, the best bet is to build the habit.

Inculcating the habit for self improvement allows one to achieve the outcome quickly and successfully as one is passionate about the journey. In other words, you have to love what you do if you want to be successful. You are motivated and will be driven to take action no matter what time of the day it is. If you want to achieve great success in your life, you must love what you have to do.

By doing what you love, you have the natural drive that keeps you motivated in your journey in life. Motivation will be the key to achieve great success. More often than not, you will be amazed with your capability and capacity which you previously thought impossible.

Are you willing to spend at least 30 minutes everyday to learn about self improvement every single day? Continual learning is necessary and is not always an easy process because it takes time for you to improve, nurture and grow. However, this is perhaps the greatest investment of your time. Have you ever ponder how much have you spend on self improvement? Have you ever measured the returns? The returns can be tremendous.

So, go forth and build the foundation within you to tackle the future problems. Have a vision and chart your life roadmap. An old proverb states, "Vision without action is a Daydream, Action without vision is a Nightmare". Make the plan and take action. Remember, be committed in achieving great success, and love what you do. Continue to improve yourself for the better. These are the foundation which you need in your journey to personal success.
