Change Your Life - Unlock the Power of Self Improvement

Sometimes we reach a point in our life when we are ready for change and self improvement. Things aren't going so well for us, or painful or disappointing events seem to keep repeating themselves in our lives. You know what I mean; things like continually choosing the wrong partner or the wrong job, or maybe it's just the feeling that you are stuck in a rut with nothing exciting to look forward to on the horizon. You begin to think, "I need something more in my life," and you start looking everything related to self improvement. It seems that the only time we think of self improvement is when everything in our life seems to be falling apart, or getting worse, or you feel stagnant, unmotivated and unhappy. Then your mind fills with thoughts like, "What can I really do to change my life and make things better?"

There is a lot you can do to initiate self improvement in your life and I am one who believes that once you begin making changes, really positive things start happening in your life. It only takes making one move, one action to bring about beneficial changes into your life. Self improvement starts with you, and if you are sitting around waiting for something remarkable to happen to you without making changes, you will be waiting a very long time and never see results.

The key to self improvement is knowing your own self, and understanding how you got where you are, and where you want to go. Inevitably changes will happen in our lives whether we like it or hate it. At some time, we will all experience several turning points in our life. We can choose to sit around and watch as the world goes by, or we can unlock our self improvement power not because someone told us it is mandatory, but because you feel unhappy, unfulfilled and listless. That is a sign that you need to incorporate self improvement in your life. When you continue to get the same unwanted results in your relationships, jobs, lack of money, addictions and in other areas of your life - that should send a signal to you that it's time for change and self improvement.

I hear people all the time complaining that they hate their life, their job, their partner, their weight and yet they choose to do nothing about it. I have no time for whiners who insist that the world owes them because somehow they think they deserve it, but do nothing to earn it. Even though they repeatedly get negative results in their relationships and endeavours, they just can't accept that change begins with them. They need to do some self- evaluation and implement self improvement in their life.

Be aware of the signals in your life and when you see the same warning signs over and over, take note and start making self improvement. Don't wait until none of your clothes fit anymore before adopting some self improvement in a healthier lifestyle. You have a lot more chance of success when you see the fist signs that there is a problem in different aspects of your life. If your favorite jeans seem to be getting harder to fasten up, then start to make improvements in your diet to lose unwanted pounds. The same principle applies to everything in your life. Don't wait until you experience pain and hopelessness before applying the power of self improvement.

Don't wait until your world starts falling apart. Many of us do that because change isn't always easy, but ignoring change only worsens the situation. There is no need to resist or fear change. Remember if you continue to do the same things in the same way, you will get the same results. So face it and do something about it. Self improvement can be exhilarating and freeing. It can empower you. Making positive changes through self improvement will lead to much more happiness, control and contentment in your life.

Self improvement doesn't mean you need to change everything in your life. Look at the areas that are not making you happy. For example if you need to lose a few pounds, join a gym or exercise class a few nights a week. Or buy a fitness CD, and grab a friend to work out together. Make it something that is fun and you will begin to look forward to self improvement. If you lack confidence or you feel your communications skills are weak, there are so many resources to help you in those areas. There are literally hundreds of self improvement books, courses, audio CD's, and videos that can help you boost your confidence and help you understand how to communicate more effectively.

The beauty of self improvement is, it is something you can do in the privacy of your own home with plenty of books, courses and CD's that you can choose from. Carve out your own path and method to make empowering self improvements.

When you start seeing the encouraging results that happen to you because you chose to unlock the power of self improvement, you will soon realize that it's only the beginning of a much happier road in your life that puts you in control.

How To Unleash The Power Of Self-improvement

To unlock the infinite power of self you must understand what Self is. Your self consists of three core elements: your body your mind and your spirit. You must work on each one of these elements as part of the self improvement process. Each part of self affects the other and each is as important as the other.

Self Improvement Through Body

Your body is the vehicle with which you interact with physical life. Through your body you communicate with the world around you. Your mind uses your body to express itself, your spirit uses your body to experience itself. You must keep your body as fit and active as it is possible for it to be for the rest of your life. Improve your diet. There is so much information on nutrition and health. Feed your body so that it can perform at an optimal level everyday. Your body includes your hair and skin, your heart, your blood, your respiratory system and your hormones. What are the foods that you need to be consuming that keep these parts of the body functioning at their peak - always?

Your body was built as a strong active working machine. It has been constructed for a potential life of well over a hundred years. If you do not let your body do what it was designed for it will falter and ultimately fail. As well as feeding body for optimum health you must also exercise it so that it can renew itself. Your muscles keep themselves strong by use. The same can be said of your brain too.

Self Improvement Through Mind

It is through the mind that you make the decisions for your body. Everything that you are today has been planned out by your mind. The job you do, how much you earn, the person you married, your weight, your beauty, your car, your house etc, etc. Through your mind and your thoughts you have created your present life experience. If you want self improvement any part of your life as you experience it now you must improve your mind. Knowledge is a key that opens so many doors. Improve your mind through the acquisition of information. Perhaps you want a better job and to earn more money. What do you need to know to get from where you are to where you want to get to? Do you need extra qualifications or to retrain?

However improving the conscious mind is the easier part. The difficulty is the subconscious mind which also has a huge part to play in your life as you experience it today. Perhaps you are overweight because you eat inappropriately. You find it difficult to resist the urge to binge on chocolate but you don't know why. The answer probably lies somewhere in your subconscious where you have stored learned behaviour from the past. Once you access the subconscious you can change what is stored there and thus improve your behaviour. There are a number of professionals and therapies who can help you improve your self through the mind and there are a number of self help techniques you can use.

Self Improvement Through Spirit

Such concepts as faith, hope, joy, contentment, peace, and love all fall within the realm of the spirit. You don't have to be religious to know the essential nature of these things to fully experience a life of the highest quality. However working with the spirit is different than working with the body and mind. You can work to improve you body and mind but you must work to let your spirit improve you. Just taking time on a regular basis to get in touch with your spirit will bring you self improvement at the most profound level. Religious structures and practices have been put in place by our ancestors to help us commune with the spirit. You may choose to follow a religion or find your own path but without good spiritual health you will find the power of self improvement in all areas much more difficult to unleash.

Overcome the Fear of Self Improvement

People are usually afraid of things they do not understand. When you hear the term "self improvement" people get all jumpy and defensive. Why? They are afraid of self-improvement because of this fear of the unknown. To proceed with anything in life is self-improvement, to learn more about a subject is self improvement, to exercise, eat right, drive safely, and just about anything else in your life you desire to change is self improvement. may help you in this situation.

In self-improvement you are simply changing yourself for the better. So, to understand is to remove fear. Said another way; the best way to remove fear is to understand. You may already know that life is always in a continual cycle, of ups and downs, good times and bad times, and so forth. Just keep in mind that normally no one is permanently up or permanently down. Those who get stuck in a "down" often are thought of needing self improvement, but you need constant self improvement to just live life, regardless of you situation. In life no one can avoid these ups and downs it is the way life is. However by constant self improvement your life will have shorter downs and longer ups.

What people should do about these downs is to learn from them, the lesson is to understand that without constant growth you are no longer alive. Think about this: Life is growth. If a tree stops producing new leaves it is considered dead, if a rose no longer produces buds and is just a bunch of grey thorny sticks, it is considered dead. To prove that it is alive the tree and the rose must always continue to produce, or grow, new leaves, branches, and so it is growing. When the growing stops it is a sure sign that life has ended. We humans are the same, no we don't grow leaves or buds, and we produce results. Such as we produce cooked meals for our family, or produce products for our employer, or produce love and comfort for our significant other. We are always producing something and in this measure we are alive.

When we stop being useful and helpful we are no longer living like we should. So we need to use a little self improvement to change what we are doing so that we again produce. An example is in order here. Let us say that your hobby is knitting, and during the winter you knitted every body you know a pair or mitten, because you are good at it and like to do it. Then comes spring, not a whole lot of need for mittens, so you begin to feel useless, and experience a down moment in your life. What to do now? You ask. Well, you learn something new, put it into practice and produce something else. Continuing with the example you learn a new stitch and start making grill pads for everyone so they have a place to set those hot pans without melting the table underneath. You just committed self improvement! Does this mean you should start to learn knitting? No, if knitting is your thing then carry on, but you may have other things you do, such as auto detailing, carpentry, bicycle repair, and so on. Some people even find a way to make a living with their hobby.

So do not fear self improvement, the term means only what it says. Improving yourself. Maybe this year you'll run a marathon, grow a black rose, solve the world peace problem, grow the perfect tomato, or get the promotion at work. All you need is a little self improvement, and that usually starts with reading something that leads to learning something that leads to doing something.

We all have problems that affect us every day. These problems bring us misery due to the fact that we just don't know what to do. We should never loose hope, where there is life there is hope, all we need is a little self help in figuring out solutions to these problems. "All we need is to learn how to overcome it and not to be overcome."

Self improvement should not wait for the last moment; you should always be looking for skills to learn and things to do. To stop learning is always for the worse and consequently, you will let go of a chance, an opportunity, because you are afraid to take a risk.

Keep in mind that, from time to time, something has to happen in order to free you from monotony, so don't be surprised if, at a certain moment in time, instead of being afraid of change, you desire it with all your heart.

Self improvement is not a bad thing; it is not to be feared. You will understand that you are alive and to prove it to the world you will keep growing, and producing. Then when you see your self slowing down or stopping you simply apply a bit of that self improvement stuff again and you are back in the game again.

Be Blessed

Reading Self Improvement Articles - A Never Ending Journey Through Life

How I Got on the Self Improvement Path

More than a decade ago, I got started on this journey of self improvement. The real catalyst that got me started was going through an experience of life that some people choose called "divorce". But although the divorce was the great catalyst I needed to get off my behind and improve myself in every way possible, the beginnings of that journey would never have been possible without direction. The direction I very much needed at that very confusing and messed up time in my life came from reading a self improvement related book called "The Way of The Peaceful Warrior". It changed my life to say the least. Ever since the day I picked up that book, life has never been the same. And it is for that reason that I now continue to write self improvement articles and am in the process of writing several self improvement books.

Keeping Your Energy and Dedication Up

Every once in a while I find myself slacking off on this path of improving myself. Every so often it begins to feel like too much work to constantly keep improving myself. Every once in a while I just want to sit back and see things happen my way for once, the way I like it. But then the beauty about life and this journey of self improvement is that "Life tends to not give us exactly what we want but instead it always gives us what we need".

That's why I have found it so imperative to do things to keep my energy and commitment level high in order to keep improving myself anytime there's an opportunity. And the way I have found that works really well is to keep reading self improvement books and self improvement articles. Although I love pretty much any forms of self improvement articles and self improvement books, I find the ones that move me into action and raise my energy most are the ones that share a story, a personal journey or struggle of some sort.

I find that those types of self improvement articles and self improvement books help the most because the writer shares from a personal space and therefore most people can identify with what is written about. I know of no one and neither have I heard of anyone that has achieved great successes or done amazing things in life without first going through some massive struggle and challenge in their life. Often, the greatest achievements done and people are all people who have crashed so low and hit rock bottom before they made it.

The Value of Reading

So I ask the question, where would we be if we didn't have people who share their personal stories through self improvement articles and self improvement books? Because at the very least, self improvement articles and self improvement books give us a feeling that we are not alone in our struggles. Most often they raise our energy, and level of belief and faith that we can do it, achieve it or overcome it too. And at best, self improvement articles and self improvement books give us a clear direction, a sense of purpose again and clear steps of how we can move forward in the direction that will fulfill us most.

So to me, there is no doubt that constantly reading self improvement articles and self improvement books can only help us in our journey forward, not just towards achieving things in life but most importantly towards helping us become the higher self that we are inside. And by becoming that higher self that we are and continually spiraling upward, we can serve and contribute in more positive ways towards others who are perhaps in struggles we were once in. Reading self improvement articles and books helps give us different perspective on life and it experiences.

Hence, it is my belief that continually reading self improvement articles and books and then perhaps even writing your own, can itself be so helpful to not only you, but others too. So I say keep on reading and writing.

5 Good Questions About Self Improvement

What is self improvement?

Self improvement is a choice, and we choose to change ourselves from within.
Self improvement is to become responsible of what we do, what we have and who we are.
Self improvement helps us to build our self esteem, our values and it takes discipline.
Self improvement is to take the needed power and control into your own hands to create the future you want.
Self improvement is a battle, a continuous struggle to transcend our weaknesses and limitations. It starts with knowing ourselves and having an aspiration of having a better life. On the battle field we need to carry appropriate luggage and armor. Choose a bullet-proof armor and this is self change. Self change is about changing our attitude, our behavior and our way of thinking.
Self improvement is improvement of one's mind, character and health.
Self improvement is not a rigid science. Many ingredients can be blended to produce a variety of self improvement dishes. Some random occurrences coming along the course of our life such as painful life (loss of job, loss of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a natural disaster destroying all your possessions) or life threatening illness improves ourselves.
Self improvement is not just improving your mindset. It also involves improving your body and physical state. The mind and body are intertwined and both affect each other. Therefore, self improvement ideas should focus on both aspects.

Who needs self improvement?

Everybody needs self improvement. Every person aspires to have a better, successful and fulfilled life. Self improvement is one of the tools that attains this goal. Every person is unique. Each individual has thousands of facets of his life that could or need to be improved.

What are the results of self improvement?

The results of self improvement is inner stability, personal development, self confidence, self appreciation and self esteem. Knowing that knowledge is power leads people today to increase, in secret their abilities, like acquiring better conversational skills, to get promotion. Each individual must take the reins of his future and control his destiny. Self improvement helps people to achieve his goal or accomplish his vision.

What does require self improvement?

It requires perseverance, patience, practice, thirst of knowledge and commitment. Just knowing what to do by reading books or attending seminar or listening to tapes will not give any results unless you choose to practice what you learn. Starting to buy or to subscribe to any self improvement program or to talk or to articulate what we should do is just the beginning but the main thing and the real test for us is to commit ourselves to practice what we preach or read.

What are the kinds of self improvement programs?

Celebrating Self-Improvement Month In Colleges

In line with a school's continuous endeavor towards self-improvement, in every academic year, a particular month is generally designated as a self-improvement month. During this month, there are festivities as well as several events that further advance and motivate young persons to strive to become better individuals in life.

Making every effort towards the goal of self-improvement, does not by any possible means, challenge the exceptionality of an individual. Well, it is a known fact that every person comes with his own levels of competence. Nevertheless, you cannot put a ceiling on these personal strong points.

There is always room for improvement. In this way, an individual is able to preserve his existing capabilities and simultaneously augment them through self-improvement.

The self-improvement months conducted by several different schools are usually anticipated eagerly by the students. Now, this is due to the fact that theses activities, apart from being remarkably inspiring also give due importance to each and every student. There is neither a leader nor a follower. Everybody is assigned equal privilege.

Before the self-improvement month commences, the guidance counselor carries out student interviews. This is to evaluate further the students with regard to their self-improvement needs or requirements. Besides, students are also offered the chance to contribute their inputs pertaining to the kind of events to be organized in the month.

Once the guidance counselor finishes the discussion, the students are normally assigned a task to create something for an event, which will bring to the fore their creative abilities. They can compose songs, pen poems, paint for an exhibition, choreograph a stage performance, and several such others. They are given a free rein to organize the entire schedule of events.

In addition, even though a majority of schools observe this practice, in spite of it not being a self-improvement month, students are requested to keep a record and jot down personal areas they think need improvement in addition to what specific areas have already been accomplished by them.

For instance, a student can list developing his planning abilities. Later, he can note down, next to it, what the actual development was with regard to the same. For example, he can pen that he assisted his father in planning a formal business party. Even though it is just small thing, nevertheless it is quite a significant landmark regarding his objective of self-improvement. The recorded statements are often talked about with the class adviser or guidance counselor and suitable suggestions are made.

During self-improvement months, the school corridors are covered by an array of murals and collages. The teachers give themes concerned with self-improvement and the students form themselves into groups and make a collage based on the theme, which they afterwards will exhibit in the class. At times, competitions are also held to spice up the proceedings.

Contests are bound to take place since they spur the students on to reveal their true capabilities. Generally, contests are held in the spheres of singing, writing, painting, cooking, and so on. What is of the essence is that students are provided with a setting to exhibit their skills and are driven to sharpen them even more.

In the self-improvement month, there are countless activities, which can be organized. However, everyone should bear in mind that these events must underline the fact that each individual should hope to become a good human being and capitalize on all available prospects for self-improvement. Now, students are in the process of developing. Hence, it is crucial that they realize, as soon as possible, that an individual's capabilities are never ending. There is, even now, so much that can be brought out and shared with others.
